As for the fur texture, try painting the characters' silhouette with their darkest tone, then paint the lighter tones with thinner strokes. Paint the lighter strokes from the silhouette outwards and direct them according to where that part of the body rests (for example, if the cat is sitting down, direct the strokes of their back towards their seat). I hope this makes sense?
